Where do I park? How can I get to the Start/Finish Area?
Downtown Portland is very congested on race weekend. Some streets are closed. Parking is available on street away from the Marathon Course and start/finish area. Additional parking is available in parking garages for a fee. On race day street closures may make finding parking more of a challenge. Please remember to allow extra travel time to deal with the congestion of race day so you can arrive at your assigned location as scheduled.

Due to the severe congestion around the start area on Marathon Day, we recommend volunteers working in the start/finish area and participants consider riding MAX or other public transit. For a list of Park and Ride locations throughout the metro area, visit http://trimet.org/parkandride/index.htm.

On MAX, Coming from Hillsboro/ Beaverton riders can get off MAX at 4th and Yamhill. Coming from Gresham/Lloyd Center get off MAX at 4th & Morrison. In each case, the Marathon start/finish area is only three blocks away.

What should I wear?
If working outside, please make sure to wear layers as the weather is changeable this time of year. Pockets are the best option.

What about food?
A: It is best to bring a snack or lunch given the need for flexibility in assignments.

Can I volunteer if I have physical limitations?
YES, Portland Marathon welcomes all individuals who want to volunteer. If you have physical limitations that require accommodation, please contact Helen Smith at volunteer@portlandmarathon.org so you can be matched with a job appropriate to your abilities.

Can I secure my valuables while I work as a volunteer?
We cannot secure your valuables. We recommend that you do not bring a purse or backpack if you are volunteering in the Marathon Start/Finish area because we do not have a secure storage location.
