1. What happens if I am already registered for the race?
Registrants for the 2018 Portland Marathon will be issued a prompt, full refund of registration fees. If you paid with a credit or debit card through our race registration platform, Active.com, your refund will be reflected on your statement. We anticipate the refund process will be completed within 30 days.
2. What will Portland Marathon do with its remaining funds?
Portland Marathon has had the opportunity to help support several great charities throughout the race’s history. We anticipate distributing some of the remaining funds (after accounting for expenses and consistent with state law) to our charitable partner organizations. We look forward to these funds supporting the continued work these organizations do in our community.
3. Will there be a Portland Marathon in 2018?
No, there will not be a Portland Marathon or Half Marathon in 2018, but we look forward to seeing and participating in the great event we expect the city, the running community and other organizations will produce in 2019.
4. Will there be a marathon in Portland in 2019?
While the Portland Marathon organization will not host a race in 2019, the City of Portland has released an RFI to gauge the interest and capabilities of other organizations interested in hosting a 2019 marathon event in Portland.
5. Is the dissolution of the Portland Marathon a result of the Department of Justice investigation that concluded last week?
The decision to dissolve our organization was based on a number of factors including the number of race registrants and the Board’s understanding of the City’s desire to move in a different direction. We are grateful to the Oregon Department of Justice and Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum for working tirelessly to assist us in recovery of funds taken from our organization.
