All Marathon weekend entrants are required to pick up their packet that includes chip, number, souvenir program and assorted promotional items during Expo hours. There is no day of race packet pickup or entry for any event. The Expo is also the place to buy Marathon souvenirs, and to sign-up for the Clydesdale/Bonnydale or muscle/ power competition ($5 registration fee).
During Packet Pickup the free Expo focuses on health screening checks and demonstrations; sports medicine and fitness programs; innovative fitness clothing, shoes and training aids; and other run and walk related products and services.
In addition, everyone is invited to attend free lectures during Expo hours by local and national sports medicine specialists and noted personalities in the running and walking community. About Our Speakers
World famous marathon runner Bill Rodgers is best known for his victories in the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon in the late 1970’s. Rodgers won both races four times each between 1975 and 1980, twice breaking the American record at Boston. In 1977 he won the Fukuoka Marathon, making him the only runner ever to hold the championship of all three major marathons at the same time. He was a member of the US Olympic Marathon Team in 1976, and has run about 60 marathons and won 22; 28 of them were run under 2:15. He is the co-author of The Complete Idiots Guide to Running and has owned and operated with his brother the Bill Rodgers Running Center in Boston since 1977.
Patti Finke is an exercise physiologist and RRCA certified running coach. For the last 6 years, she travelled across the country instructing and certifying coaches for the RRCA. She coaches individuals and groups of runners and walkers for distance from 5k to ultramarathons. Patti has been coaching runners and walkers for over 30 years. She is a Director and Founder of the Portland Marathon Training Clinic and author of “Marathoning Start To Finish”. She is the author of many articles on training and racing for local, national and international publications. She has been running and racing for 35 years completing over 170 marathon and ultramarathons. She has held individual U.S. age records for 50km and 50mi and has three times been Oregon Road Runners Club Age group runner of the year.
Warren Finke is a RRCA certified running coach and fitness consultant. He was an instructor for the Road Runners Club of America coaching certification program for 6 years. Warren has been coaching beginning to elite road and trail runners for more than 30 years. He is a Director and Founder of the Portland Marathon Training Clinic and co-author of “Marathoning Start To Finish”. Warren has authored or contributed to numerous local, national and international publications. He has competed in over 170 marathons and ultramarathons winning more than 20. He is twotime U.S. track record holder for 100km and was the 2nd place veterans finisher in the 1992 Boston Marathon.
Judy Heller has changed and shaped the way people think about walking for the past 20 years. One of the Pacific Northwest’s foremost experts on walking, 2011 Master Female Track Athlete of the Year race walker, Judy is a wellness/fitness and walking coach who has trained thousands of people and organized some of the region’s best respected recreational and competitive walking events. Judy is a USA Track and Field (USATF) Certified Official/Master Level Race Walk official; and certified Nordic Walk instructor (Exerstrider/Leki). Judy is a recognized fitness expert being quoted in Prevention; Weight Watchers; Family Circle; Fitness; Shape; Body, Mind and Soul; and Woman’s Day magazines.
Marie VerMeer is the Race Walk/Nordic Walk Coordinator and Awards Committee Chair for the Portland Marathon Committee and completed 5 Portland Marathons as a fitness walker. Marie is a USA Track and Field (USATF) Certified Official/Master Level Race Walk official and has been involved with race walking as a competitor, judge and coach since 1996 and with the Portland Marathon since 2000. She coordinates race walk officials for all USATF Oregon Association race walk events.
