Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a "home away from home" for families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive treatment at Portland hospitals.
Portland's two Ronald McDonald Houses will provide a comfortable place to stay for more than 1,600 families this year. Far from the support of their family and friends, these families find the support they need at the Ronald McDonald House.
The Ronald McDonald Houses, located near Doernbecher Children's Hospital and Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital, can accommodate up to 40 families per night. Families staying with us have children being treated for a variety of illnesses and injuries, including cancer, heart ailments, eating disorders, premature birth, respiratory conditions, and trauma.
"Our daughter Madelyn was born premature weighing only 2 pounds. We didn't get a chance to hold her after she was born because she was quickly flown to Portland. We drove for three hours in the middle of the night from Pendleton, Oregon and arrived exhausted and worried at the hospital. Our only peace was knowing that we had a place to call home at the Ronald McDonald House. We were only minutes away from our daughter's bedside. We met people at the Ronald McDonald House just like us going through almost the same exact situation with their children. We don't know what we would have done without this support."
- Monique and Michael O'Grady, Ronald McDonald House Guests - 67 days
We request $20 a day from families staying at the Ronald McDonald House, but no family is ever turned away if they are unable to pay. Donations from families, corporations, community groups, and individuals like you help cover our operating costs.
Your gift means that families will have a place to call home while their children are in the hospital.
