The 2013 Portland Marathon – A tribute to Boston
The Portland Marathon will dedicate our 2013 Events in October to the memory of all those impacted by the tragedy at 2013 The Boston Marathon. At the Portland Marathon finish line this year:
- The souvenir t-shirt received by all finishers will carry a Boston memorial theme.
- One side of our commemorative coin, given to each finisher at the finish line, will be designed as a memorial that carries forward the remembrance of all those who suffered this year in Boston.
Through out the season The Portland Marathon will carry additional promotions in our newsletter, email blasts and social networks to encourage the running community to continue to Speak With Your Feet™ and remain positive and united in the power of running, and to continue to raise funds for those impacted by the tragedy at Boston.
Express your thoughts and share encouraging ideas on our Facebook Page.
Event Directors & Organizers
Panel discussions at the Portland Marathon Event Director College, October 3-5, 2013 will be dedicated to the topics of concern highlighted by the events in Boston and be a forum for Event planners to share and execute ideas in a unified fashion as the industry reacts to the effect of the Boston tragedy on the industry as a whole. Register for the Portland Marathon Event Directors’ College by going here.
The Portland Marathon will continue to work closely with city agencies and emergency response systems in its practice of regular review of emergency procedures. New ideas that promote additional safety for all Event participants and spectators during the weekend of marathon events will be considered for implementation.
