Going the Distance Foundation

Through the Going The Distance Foundation and the Marathon Direct Giving Program, many direct donations are given by the event to our volunteer groups.

How Donations are Used Locally
As independent donations to a variety of local charities and organizations Through the Going The Distance Foundation and the Marathon Direct Giving Program, many direct donations are given by the event to our volunteer groups. The Portland Marathon recruits over 4,500 volunteers annually to assist with our event. Our volunteer program has served as a vehicle for providing school and organizational credit and experience for a host of local charities, nonprofits, sport, school, and service clubs. Each year we have many success stories shared with us on how the program continues to benefit others.

Speak With Your Feet Campaign – Remember Boston

The Portland Marathon will dedicate our 2013 Event in October to the memory of all those impacted by the tragedy at The 2013 Boston Marathon. We will distribute the funds to charitable causes identified and selected under the advisement of Boston Marathon organizers.

Thank you for donating and/or fundraising for our unique program and allowing us to utilize financial resources to in turn help other charities, organizations and worthwhile causes. Each year the funds available to us vary, and the donations vary, accordingly. Each year we have many success stories shared with us on how the program continues to benefit others.

Noé International

Noé International promotes learning in urban Mexico through dynamic educational and recreational programs provided to low income families. Students are eager to learn and their parents embrace an opportunity normally limited to the wealthy. Working with over 500 students each week, the NOE Center in Morelia, Michoacan has witnessed high school graduation rates rise from the 27% state average to 86% for students who attend the center for at least three years. Since 1996, 130 English students have participated in a one month summer homestay in Portland. 94% of them either have obtained or are working toward their college degree. The City of Morelia, in recognition of NOE´s contribution, has donated property and built an outdoor basketball court for a new center in an even poorer part of town. We’re giving hope and a future and we’re in it for the long run.

Children’s Cancer Association

For children and teens diagnosed with serious illness, every moment is precious. At Children’s Cancer Association, we transform as many of those moments as possible – with joy.

Children’s Cancer Association (CCA) is a national leader providing free, innovative programs of JoyRx and has connected hundreds of thousands of children, teens, and their family members to the power of hope, comfort, and happiness in the past two decades.

CCA didn’t start with a foundation, it started with a family. One who faced its own battle with serious pediatric illness almost two decades ago in Portland, Oregon. From that experience came a passionate commitment and focus on the moment, and a commitment to deliver immediate help to kids when their need is the greatest.

Africa New Life Ministries

Africa New Life exists to break the cycle of poverty in Rwanda by providing education, spiritual insight and basic necessities to poor children and families.  Currently, more than 4000 children in Rwanda are sponsored through Africa New Life. Child sponsorship provides tuition, school supplies, and basic medical care for students. Africa New Life’s 150 indigenous staff members manage 6 children’s homes, 3 primary and secondary schools, a training center for street children, a vocational training center for women, and a scholarship program for college women. One by one, through compassion, love and education, women and children in Rwanda are able to dream, hope and have confidence in a brighter future.

Team Living Water Logo

Team Living Water

Living Water International is excited to partner with the Portland Marathon and the Pacific Northwest running community to bring safe water to our global neighbors in need. At least 783 million people lack access to safe drinking water. Without water, all other forms of sustainable development can’t flourish, leaving communities trapped in cycles of poverty. Clean water changes everything.

Team Living Water offers an opportunity to join a local community engaged with this issue of water and turn your Portland Marathon run or walk into an act in solidarity with people around the world who are forced to walk great distances in pursuit of safe drinking water. We endure so they won’t have to.

Each mile run with Team Living Water will raise awareness and funds to change entire communities through clean water.  Join them.  Join us.
